SRWRA recognises the important role of education in improving the rate of resource recovery in Australia, and we are dedicated to working with our constituent councils and local communities to help raise awareness and increase understanding of positive waste management practices and recycling.
As part of these efforts, SRWRA’s education and community outreach program connects schools, organisations, businesses and community groups across southern Adelaide with the resources, materials and experiences they need to improve local waste and environmental outcomes.

The Les Perry Grant
Since 2010, SRWRA has been supporting community education and engagement through the Les Perry Grant program. By giving school-based environmental and sustainability projects a boost, SRWRA is looking to get students interested in the world around them.

SRWRA Site Tours
SRWRA operates a world-class integrated waste and recycling facility that includes South Australia’s largest and most technically advanced Materials Recovery Facility.
For those interested in seeing our site in action, SRWRA now offers tours for community groups and educational institutions. Your guided site tour may include visits to and information about:
- Southern Recycling Centre (SRC)
- Southern Materials Recovery Facility (SMRF)
- SRWRA Landfill
- Biogas Plant
- Educational games and activities
- Waste Warrior activity booklet (suitable for children aged 6-12)
Please note, schools or organisations must provide their own bus for the duration of the tour. The bus will be used to transport participants between locations around the SRWRA site.
SRWRA Site Tours

While our site tours can be tailored to most ages, we are unable to accommodate children under 6 years of age.
Tours can be held Monday-Friday during our site operational hours of 8AM-4PM.
Allow at least 90 minutes for your visit. This will provide you with enough time to visit some key operational facilities across the SRWRA precinct, before regathering at our Head Office for some follow up educational games and activities.
We can accommodate groups of up to 30 children, and 18-25 adults. Please get in touch with our team to discuss what’s possible for your group.
No, SRWRA runs its site tours free of charge. It’s all part of our education and community outreach program, which aims to improve environmental and waste management practices across southern Adelaide.
Our team must be notified at least four weeks in advance of your preferred tour date.
While we can generally tailor a tour to suit a range of different mobility requirements, this is an operational site with many uneven surfaces which can be a challenge to navigate even for the able bodied. Please get in touch with our team at admin@srwra.com.au to discuss possible solutions.
