SRWRA is home to a world class renewable energy facility, which combines bioenergy and solar technologies to deliver reliable renewable electricity for the southern region of Adelaide.

Since 2019, SRWRA’s Renewable Energy Hub has been producing over 25,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy every year. This Joint Venture project with LMS Energy utilises cutting-edge technology in both biogas capture and solar farm systems. The result is enough reliable renewable energy to power 13,000 people, or 500,000 electric vehicles every day.

Bioenergy Facility

When it’s placed into landfill and covered over, organic waste begins to break down in a natural process called anaerobic decomposition. Two products that result from this process are methane and carbon dioxide. Our partnership with LMS Energy has led to the development of a facility that captures this biogas as it’s produced and turns it into renewable electricity that powers homes, businesses and services in Southern Adelaide.

Landfill Solar Farm
In a South Australian first, our 2,000-panel solar farm has been engineered to sit on top of our capped landfill lots, where it can capture the full extent of the Australian sun. Designed by LMS Energy, the innovative mounts that support the 600KW system have been specially developed to suit their unique positioning. As with our bioenergy facility, the energy captured by our solar farm goes on to power the local electricity network for the benefit of all Southern Adelaide communities.
