At the Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA) we’re committed to creating a sustainable future through progressive and responsible waste management practices. We do this by seeking the highest and best use of recovered materials, not only for today, but for a prosperous future.

Our core business activity is the management of our waste and recycling facilities, renewable energy hub and landfill. We partner with industry experts and pride ourselves in employing innovative resource recovery approaches to support the circular economy.

The Southern Materials Recovery Facility (SMRF), our Joint Venture operation with Re.Cycle (Adelaide) of Re.Group, is South Australia’s largest materials recovery facility. It houses state-of-the-art technology and provides processing of kerbside commingled recycling, producing the highest product purity levels in Australia.

Our Joint Venture operation with Integrated Waste Services (IWS), the Southern Recycling Centre (SRC), realises a significant diversion of waste from landfill every year, processing approximately 70,000 tonnes of household waste every year.

We are also one of the State’s major landfill operations currently receiving over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually with approximately 90,000 tonnes going to landfill.

SRWRA’s Renewable Energy Hub, established in partnership with LMS Energy, uses cutting-edge biogas capture and solar farm technology to generate over 25,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy every year.
