Southern Region Waste Resource Authority Appoints New Chair

The Southern Region Waste Authority (SRWRA) has announced the appointment of Roberto Bria as Chair, following the departure of long-standing Chairperson Mark Booth.

Booth spent 26 years at the helm of the organisation, which operates a world-class integrated waste precinct delivering sustainable waste management and resource recovery solutions to southern Adelaide on behalf of the Cities of Onkaparinga, Holdfast Bay and Marion.

Outgoing Chairperson, Mark Booth with SRWRA CEO, Martin Borgas

Bria, an independent SRWRA Board Member and former CEO of the City of Holdfast Bay, brings extensive experience in governance, risk and commercial development.

“Having been involved with SRWRA for a number of years, I’ve seen the sector evolve beyond the traditional view of simply managing waste to recovering resources, reducing what goes to landfill, extracting greater value from materials and adopting new technologies,” Bria said.

“A key focus for me will be making sure we’re not only responding to what’s happening in the sector today, but are improving, innovating and adapting for where waste and resource recovery will be in five, ten and twenty years’ time.”

Bria has previously served on public, private and not-for-profit boards and is currently a member of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network Board.

SRWRA CEO Martin Borgas said the team was looking forward to working with Bria to build on the organisation’s strong foundations and momentum as it enters its next stage of development.
